Football - playing, watching (NUFC, KVM, Haringey Borough). Music - most definitely not playing, listening, gigs. Watching old films. Books - buying lots, reading slightly fewer. The 'news', as depressing as it is
Totally regret setting my alarm stupidly early to get up for that

Especially now my nextdoor neighbour is undertaking the noisiest of DIY "projects"

Could have done with holding onto that c&b attempt

Apropos of nothing, a random Brussels street sign

You might be on to something there

Very sad news. Stepped up to become manager when Newcastle were in disarray - steadying the ship, playing some nice stuff. Gave youth a chance. Never hid, always fronted up. Seemed a very genial and affable guy, too. Gave his best as player, coach, manager. RIP

Totally threw me when I heard it announced "the holders" had been drawn against Bradford City

My mind automatically assumed this meant Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc until I realised, "hold on, that's us!"

Quite a nice sensation, being a winner/holder, tbf

Don't worry, though, your call *is* very important to them 👍

Did you have similar Eureka! moments with other songs, such as By the Time I get to Phoenix, or 24 Hours From Tulsa, for example?

In all seriousness, I didn't realise the CCR song 'Lodi' referred to an actual place for years

Unless your team crashes to a catastrophic opening day defeat, in which case, it's still very much cricket season (til mid October, at least)
August 2, 2025 at 11:37 AM
What is this about? When did it become a 'thing'?

Couple of things leap out there

Totally slipped my mind Desailly was sent off

And Guivarc'h, despite the tournament he'd had, started and played for over an hour

I like The Combine - news at ten, war in Rhodesia, far away in a distant land...

But it's Tonight At Noon that's the star. Read an article yonks ago where the author said it was the first "great" Weller song. Strong shout

Ah, I actually have a soft spot for both London Traffic, and Don't Tell Them You're Sane

Lyrics need work admittedly, but the tunes are bang on

In Tom We Trust

(But yep, it was pretty drab stuff)
June 7, 2025 at 10:15 PM
You had a Challenge Cup final to win tbf
June 7, 2025 at 10:08 PM
Genuine question - what was the trend in those other seasons?
June 7, 2025 at 9:58 PM
England winning 1-0 away in Barcelona would normally be seen as an incredible result
