Sonic needs another female bestie besides Amy and Tangle is the perfect candidate for that role, they are around the same age and have a lot in common.

I'm so happy this happened, Tangle is my second favorite female character after Blaze in the entire franchise. I've always believed that Sonic desperately needs another girl his own age besides Amy to go on adventures with, one who isn't stuck in another dimension like Blaze, -
