Here in Eastern Ontario Loughborough Lake is pronounced Low-boro. When I moved to the area 25 years ago I used the UK pronunciation and was quickly "corrected."

George Hong died on 8 September 1944 and is buried in Ancona War Cemetery; his epitaph “SO THAT ALL PEOPLES MAY LIVE IN PEACE AND FREEDOM. BORN WINDSOR, ONTARIO, CANADA” He was 19. We will remember them.

Joseph Hong’s brother, George, was serving with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Italy, after recovering from wounds received earlier that year.

Joseph Hong is buried in BRETTEVILLE-SUR-LAIZE Cdn War Cemetery with his crew. The inscription on his grave “UNION OF A CHINESE HEART WITH A CANADIAN SPIRIT”. He was 20

Nickel raids like this were used to provide experience to crews and distract German defences from larger raids. Also killed were F/O DW Goodwin, F/O CB Wyckoff, WO JG Jacques, Sgt DW Harris and Sgt J Hopper

He joined 24 Operational Training Unit as a navigator and was a member of a Whitley bomber crew. On the night of 23/24 May 1944 his aircraft was lost on a “Nickel” raid to drop propaganda leaflets.
