The problem with 🇨🇦 healthcare is an obsolete & broken business model, not technology. Need to fix the model (e.g. roles & resps) to properly apply technology, so it’s not just a patch. Improved stewardship of health info would improve healthcare, everywhere.

While we wait (& pay) for the #bchealth review to find admin savings, the opportunity to lean out the exec suite and consolidate health authorities to save money and improve service seems obvious 🤷🏼‍♂️

The problem with healthcare information in Canada is roles and responsibilities, not technology. #ehealth25 #cdnhealth #cdnpoli

British Columbia needs an efficient healthcare system designed for the future, not a legacy system from the past.

BC should review all Health Authorities at once, not sequentially. We don’t need 6. One HA would lower cost, improve patient outcomes, and steward healthcare information.

Review of BC Healthcare System
- Gated project? ✅
- Staffing freeze limited to exec, admin & support ✅
- Sequential review of each Health Authority ❌
Review all HAs. One HA would lower cost and deliver better team-based care.

The underlying business model for healthcare service delivery is obsolete. Throwing more people or money at it won’t really help. We can make much better use of existing resources and deliver better healthcare. The problem is mostly provincial.

Roles and responsibilities for stewardship of patient information are obsolete. Interoperability is a complex and expensive band aid. Team-based care requires a shareable information repository, not a multitude of fragmented holdings.

We can have timely and effective healthcare for everyone, everywhere by extending the proven, team-based healthcare model used in acute care to primary care. It’s not just technology.
