There's something foreboding about The Sower. And Van Gogh's other sunflowers.

"Pure Hokusai"

That was how Van Gogh described the quayside scene that inspired this painting. Not perhaps what one first thinks of with VG but what an image!

Come ha detto così memorabilmente Melvyn Bragg, le arti non sono la ciliegina sulla torta.

Sono la torta.

I love this.

The Arts, as Melvyn Bragg so memorably put it, are not the cherry on the top of the cake.

They ARE the cake.

"Flooding is not as widespread as thought".

I think they may be overestimating how widespread thought actually is...

New mugs. Same tea.

Cool designs by @gailmyerscough.bsky.social - which we're very pleased with. 😁

I can't work out which of us is more a slave to tradition: my partner and our grown-up son for expecting this array. Or me for surreptitiously making it happen.

But it looks like it's continuing - inc the family tradition of plain wrap & bespoke labels.

I haven't eaten meat for about 35 years but it's taken until today for me to make a nut roast.

I did it as a sort of nostalgic whim but actually it's tasty, proteinous and filling. Who knew? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Michelangelo clearly had a ready supply of extremely well-nourished young men to help him hone his skills.

Fair play. He was clearly watching carefully when he drew this.

Calling what these people were doing "home schooling" is entirely inappropriate.

The system allowed them to take their daughter out of school when all the signs said "No!"

Not to mention that theirs was no home and they were doing no schooling.

Didn't know what to give my parents for their 65th wedding anniversary. So I got Anna Sherburn to make them one of her fab pictures out of stamps.

For my classicist, Mediterranean obsessed, favourite colour blue parents the stamps are chosen appropriately. Genuinely unique gift.
