this is the curve in question here.
the negative region down the bottom makes the camera move *away* from the cursor, causing that magnetic "jump" between two stable states.

this result isn't particularly "useful" to me, but it is fun so i figured i'd share it.

was messing with curve-based camera smoothing and found this fun little "sticky" camera setup!

the camera finds a point partway between the player and mouse, then samples a curve using the distance to a set max value in order to smooth its motion.

Not sure just yet if i want to go for this lineless style, it fits the tone quite well but i'm more used to using outlines for my spritework.

honestly the big appeal of this fully custom system is decreasing the iteration time. i added in this variant randomization system very quickly, and it doesn't need any messing with tilesets at all!

custom systems with a very well-defined scope are just damn fun to make. love me some worldgen

went and built myself a custom autotiling script!
each tile is drawn from three quadrants, with overhanging extra pixels for nicer edges.

probably gonna take a crack at player movement next.

In my estimation, it seems like the thoracic vertebrae from this set are going to be the best for dice. T5-T9 especially.

the way the struts extend out the back means they have many more ways to land when rolled. The lumbar pieces don't balance well, they tip over onto their flat faces too easily.

very nice! went through and customized the colours after loading it in and realized i had almost exactly recreated the Nice Day palette haha

one thing i noticed, it looks like part of the background is missing for the little hover profile popup thingy:

and just to show the problem this DOES NOT HAPPEN with sprite modulate colours.
ONLY the debug color of the collision shape, as far as i know.

i'm paranoid that this might happen at random to other variables now hahaaa :'>
