The Air Quality Index (AQI) that says the air is safe in LA after the wildfires does not take into account toxic gases that form when urban materials burn at such high temps. Considers ozone, PM, NOx, SO2. My team and I are discussing going there to measure the toxins in the air (between SD & LA).

@barkflight.bsky.social One idea is big rolls of aluminum insect screen from Home Depot to cover gaps/ eaves (we have charming but funky construction) & space beneath homes and decks. Can cut with tin snips. Put up fast with staple gun. $145 4’/100’ roll. The mesh is 1/16”, perfect to stop embers.

Film has a great section on ember cast. It has led to a lot of innovative, pragmatic, cheap DIY solutions.
