Hi everyone! I'm Alix. I live in Seattle. I coordinate #ELD and #DualLanguage programs at a public high school. I'm also a Swiftie. This will not be an account about just one thing. I talk about education, Taylor Swift, and many other aspects of my life on here.
I'm going to Costco this weekend. What should I buy?

Math education friends: we're hoping to offer a math course at our high school for language learners with interrupted and/or limited education next year. It'll be mostly Spanish-speakers.

Does anyone have recommendations for materials, tools, etc?

That man is unhinged enough without making up stuff. Can we please focus on the horrific stuff he's actually saying and doing rather than circulating fake posts?

I saw a group of teens having a snowball fight while I was driving home and y'all. I love seeing teens enjoy their childhood. Those moments of pure childish joy are so important.

Snow day!

For those keeping track at home, that brings us to 5 make-up days for the year.

3 for a cyberattack
1 for windstorm-related power outages
1 for snow

If you were trying to NOT see current news and events on social media, what terms would you mute?

Onion rings and/or tots and/or potato skins.

Maybe I just love appetizers.
Okay I'm going to do a couple of fun questions. #QuestionSky

1. What is your favorite restaurant appetizer?

I think a concerning consequence of the current state of things is that for everything that happens, there's some theory that emerges that connects it to a conspiracy of some sort, and those conspiracies start to feel more and more reasonable and likely.

Mexico has launched an app for Mexican nationals in the U.S. (legally or no) that has an emergency button you can tap to alert the closest consulate if something happens or you feel in danger from immigration. Please share.

My least favorite part of the school year starts today: WIDA season.

My small team and I have over 500 students to test by the end of March.

On the one hand, I need to protect my peace and disconnect sometimes.

On the other hand, the kids I support are a direct target of major policy changes right now and I need to know what's happening in order to support them and in order to plan for what may be coming.

Does anyone have recommendations for short videos around the topic of names?

What do we do for kids who are scared to come to school, whose families are scared to go to work, because of impending raids?

We can tell them all we want that they're safe at school. But our country has done nothing to show them they can trust our systems.

I didn't read as much last year as I usually do. Maybe because that first book hit a very raw nerve & my anxiety told me the only way to prevent that was to not read. My anxiety was wrong. All my nerves were raw for awhile & everything hit them because things just really sucked for a couple months.

Anxiety friends! Do y'all ever get anxiety about anxiety? My anxiety started because of something else but now I'm anxious that I'm going to be anxious for my whole winter break because of that thing. And like...a cross-country flight is not a great place to be double anxious.

Had to pay for in-flight internet because I was having an anxiety attack and I needed wi-fi to access a grounding meditation on Headspace.

Trying to "ground" myself while in the air was exactly the distraction I needed.

I'm feeling so much anxiety going into this break, and I think it's because we lost a student during Winter Break last year.

I nearly had an anxiety attack leaving the building today.

Any airport that's open to the outside and thus has birds in it.
3. Least favorite airport?

Yes!
2. Do you still mask when going out in public?

Spring because the weather is perfect.

I have an #edtech question! We've been using Google Sites for students' digital portfolios, but now it seems my district may be moving away from Google products. We have access to all things Microsoft. Any ideas what we can use if we lose Google Sites?

In your school system, if a student is expelled, where do they go? What do they do? And is it the same for students with IEPs? Beginning English learners?
