Alex Gard’s caricature of Larry Hart that hung in Sardi’s.

Before ‘Blue Moon’ became a Rodgers and Hart classic, the melody had been used in the song ‘The Bad in Every Man’ for 1934’s ‘Manhattan Melodrama.’ Some context: the singer, Shirley Ross, is in black face here and supposedly passing for a black woman here.

*dead pan*: Awesome.

After many weeks of pouring over the Divine Miss M, I thought it was only right that I should own this vinyl ❤️

As happens with many episodes, I find great nuggets of info in my research that I can’t use. While working on my recent episode about Bette Midler, I learned that Broadway legend André De Shields choreographed or co-choreographed some of her early shows. What a gorgeous, elegant man then and now.

So grateful I got to see Audra McDonald do this role on Broadway. It was a huge swing on an iconic role with oodles of history and she threw her whole body and soul into this performance. Congratulations and a happy closing to the company of ‘Gypsy’.

To the surprise of many (including myself) I am still alive. Script done and should start recording tomorrow. This was a toughie. Hope I can do this lady justice…

No crazy takeaway from the @wickedmovie trailer. I’m excited. Mostly looks great. The trailer (at the very least) is appeasing the Gelphie fans. ‘No Good Deed’ better slap.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure that rider on the horse is Glinda. Just my theory. Pop off with yours! 🩷💚

Been reorganizing some things at home and decided to put together all my Bway playbills which, for some reason, I have never done. I know some people see more than this a year. But for a Canadian guy who only gets to NYC every few years, I didn’t know it was this many. Very grateful I got see these.

A very happy closing to the Toronto company of ‘Come From Away’! An incredible feat in the Canadian theatre scene. It’s been quite something to see this show grow from a 45 minute presentation in H125 at Sheridan College to an international hit. Congrats and onward!

Will have more to say (good!) but at one point, my partner who has never seen ‘Gypsy’ turned to me near the end of Audra’s ‘Rose’s Turn’ and mouthed ‘holy shit’.

Nicole Fosse in the unfortunate 1985 ‘A Chorus Line’ movie. Maybe it’s just me, but boy does she look like her mom here.
