Always nice when it works! Inhibition of yeast metabolism using ethanol. On the right is a 50% ethanol concentration and on the left a 25% strength. Using resazurin as a chemical indicator, the yeast in the lower strength sample has been able to partially convert the purple solution to pink. 🌈

I never seem to have a microscope camera on me when I need one but have gotten quite good at taking shots on a phone. This is a shot of B. subtilis prepared by high school students as part of a recent STEM camp at @nescollege.bsky.social.

🎾 Today is the Men’s Final Day at Wimbledon and Centre Court features the world’s most famous grass! 🌱

Wimbledon courts are perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne). Its dense tillering (leafy shoots from the base) create a smooth, resilient surface, while its fibrous roots allows for quick regrowth.

And…. We’re off! Summer holidays are upon us!

It might be a season of well-earned rest for many educators but it’s peak season for honeybees and this hive entrance is bustling. Forager bees are making the most of long daylight hours hoovering up the local nectar, pollen.🌻🐝
