That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they? Hello?

Just a reminder that you can intensely dislike the Iranian regime and still think all this is a fucking gross combination of illegal and insane.

President Trump’s decision to launch direct military action against Iran without Congressional approval is a violation of the Constitution, which grants the power to declare war explicitly to the Congress. 🧵(1/3)

There are going to be a lot of euphemisms and double talk in the days to come. So give the Times credit for telling it straight:

"The United States has entered Israel’s war against Iran."

Umberto Eco’s take on ur-fascism is debatable—but it’s unsettling how many signs now appear in plain sight, in one of the world’s most powerful countries. Wrapped in nostalgia, fear, and silenced dissent.

In Namibia, "the bush" is a curse.

That impenetrable thicket of thorny shrubs covers thousands of km2. Gaze in any direction, and you will see the bush marching off, all-conquering.

For an agroforester, Namibia is a shock: fewer trees is what's called for.
