I make Patreon-powered Dwarf Fortress total conversions focused on atmosphere, immersion, and worldbuilding that tell interesting stories. I also do other things.

random old timey caricaturists and satirists are out there dreaming up monsters that ttrpg manuals wish they could think up and they are all just metaphors for like societal ills and such. Put these guys in a statblock please and thank you.

A humble domestic feline (me) dropping a dead rat (absurdly niche bug i found by pushing the boundaries of dwarf fortress far beyond what is reasonable) in the house (the kitfox discord) for the nth consecutive time (I will do it again)

Born to a family of near-baseline neopeasants, Jep Amiunni joined a temple to a local network deity, became a high-functioning cyberpsycho and then spent centuries continuing to work for her digital patron. Many such cases.

Another product of the procgen system.

Transcript of a battle in the version of the mod update I'm testing. In summary I was ambushed by a rogue machine, it hacked my systems to debuff me, and then blew up my hand with its coilgun before I could take it out with my rotary cannon. You know, normal dwarf fortress things.

just a thing you'll be able to encounter in an upcoming version of my mod. It took days to get the weapons to spawn right and I'm quite pleased to see that they do. You can also play as one, but you don't get a built-in weapon system, you gotta buy them.

wretched little tardigrade things swarming over the corpse of a rhinoceros-sized salamander-analog. I don't know how it happened but corpse-eating vermin go crazy in this upcoming update. I kind of like it, it reminds me of a whalefall and makes corpses very prominent on the map.

An Eva would probably be easier to manage on the day-to-day. Here it's more a Samurai 7 situation, ie a normal human guy is turned into a warbot and if he gets in a bad mood it could lead to a run-ender. So you of course make multiple of them so you can put down the rogues. That can't go wrong.

Depths of the megastructure. A flooded labyrinth of machinery and glowing mold. Unsafe.

As much as the graphical update of Dwarf Fortress is super cool I feel like there's a beauty to ASCII that can get overlooked. With the right colors, prose, and symbols you can paint a really evocative image.

wave pool in the megastructure (colors and tiles are mine, everything else is DF in its natural habitat)

Some creatures of the Long Night, the product of considerable struggling with a lua-based procgen system. I still have a long ways to go, but this is progress.
July 5, 2025 at 5:52 AM
its long so i attached it as an image. Colors can be whatever you like. What's cool about this is that all soldiers of this civilization will by typified by that style of muscular exo-suit and the visor style, but can vary widely within a coherent armor theme otherwise, thanks to the new system.
June 23, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Oh wow that's a tough question. If I had to think of something appropriate for the occasion I'd probably say a good choice would be one of the new exo-suit outfits that can be generated. There's hundreds or even thousands of combinations now, but here's a good one I found. Description incoming.

I also forgot to explain what was pictured in the original image so 3/3 I guess. It's a lot of text which is explained in the google document but the idea is to provide unique uniforms and armor sets for both civilizations and exceptional individuals, which it now does very well.
June 23, 2025 at 5:42 AM
For anyone interested, the Long Night has been updated! It's for experimental, so its only available for the Steam version (for now). Features include a vastly expanded procedural generation system for civilizations, new languages, and an overhaul of armor types to provide a lot more variety.

It turns out the trick was to look for depictions of the Serpent in the Garden of Eden. Sometimes old artists would give it human features arbitrarily. Here, your ye olde snakeman.
May 21, 2025 at 9:49 AM
Spent a good amount of time looking for any public domain classical/historical art of a snake person with human upper body and serpent lower body.

Wikimedia Commons is mocking me.

Well, time to release the test version of my weirdest mod, Haemothearchy. I have a special fondness for it; I consider it my most "unique" work, for better or worse. It started on a whim and blew up from there, expanding into something much more than what I had intended and here we are.

A random critter (WIP). Dwarf Fortress is an excellent game, but procuring resources is practically a solved problem by now (for now, until further updates throw off the balance). Anyway I thought, "what if you could only get metal by killing horrific biomechanical monsters" and then did that.
April 12, 2025 at 4:16 AM
An actual on-topic post, here's a monster for my upcoming big mod overhaul, made possible with Lua scripting. Things like this lurk all across the wasteland, and are best avoided instead of contested. Fortunately you'll know when one is near. There's always a choice to leave it be. Well, usually.

House of the Rain King- This book is really really good. Cool world, fun characters, interesting mystery, a realistically imperfect society and people who are good, bad, but mostly both. A great mixture of the grounded and fantastical. It came out like just a month ago too, get it while it's fresh!

studying up on renaissance and late medieval clothing for a project. I really like the diversity of men's fashion of that period. These are obviously higher-end products but still.
