Another cool find at Emerald Arch in Ecuador was this membracid treehopper (Anchistrotus sp.) with its enormous helmet. While much more sluggish compared to other treehoppers, this species is quick to break off and drop its helmet when disturbed, allowing it to take off swiftly to escape danger.

An adorable Platyhelminthes! I see that the classification has changed, so this is now subphylum Rhabditophora? Anyhoo, a real cutie!

if you live with other people you shouldn't raise the thermostat without discussion for the following reasons:
-rooms often heat unevenly and what feels comfortable to you may make another room unbearable
-heating is expensive and you can't jack up everyone's bill without asking

Sunday Surfing in the photo archives - here's a giant shield bug (family Tessaratomidae) from Malaysian Borneo awhile back. These are larger than the typical stink bugs we see here in the U.S. They can spray a defensive chemical that not only smells unpleasant, but can damage skin. 🐙🌿 #Bugsky

Ok hell yeah. Some kid (presumably) put their whole ass into this public education campaign. I’ve seen multiple stapled on poles near my house. I love the energy.

BIG news about vampire squid! I just learned their Japanese name "koumori-dako" means "bat-octopus," which is objectively better* and I'll be using it from now on. 🦇🐙

That's not the news though, the news is that scientists sequenced their genome and it's ENORMOUS 🧪🧵

Our coast is the home of very many western gulls. After the storms, our beaches get littered with critters and gulls come by and attempt to clean it all up

look up whether your representative was one of those in favor, and call them expressing dissapointment in this fearmongering anti-progress waste of time, especially if they are one of the 86 democrats. tell them they have lost your vote by doing this.
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
