i was literally talking to @bcmerchant.bsky.social yesterday about whether companies would start to buy ads on twitter just to gain favor with musk since he has trump’s ear, like foreign governments would stay at trump’s DC hotel
Oh they’re going IN in for Elon.

A moderação aqui é forte porque um dos primeiros grandes grupos a migrarem pra cá foi de pessoas trans que não se sentiam mais seguras no Twitter. Então, se você é transfóbico, está no lugar errado.
It’s officially “Thank A Trans Woman For Bullying Bluesky Into Adding Moderation To Make Things Better For Everyone” Day!!

shut up thats exactly what i want. a place where everyone hates the cops, agrees that fascism is bad, and thinks that it's our moral obligation to protect people and the land

we can disagree on strategy

The official Blacksky account @blacksky.app is now a moderation service. It will be limited in scope for now. The intention is to provide a better, structured place for reporting antiblack posts and harassment campaigns which happens by DMs and tags today.

I remember back in 2021 when a bunch of US legal establishment types reacted with horror at the prospect of prosecuting Trump because that's icky banana republic stuff. the reality is the opposite
🚨 BREAKING: Prosecutors asked that far-right French lawmaker Marine Le Pen be found guilty of embezzlement and sentenced to five years in prison — a judgment that threatens to torpedo her expected presidential bid.

There are literally DOZENS of people could have spelled this out for them in a simple three sentence quote. But instead they kept the "scary killer AI" framing in place and let google spin a PR line.

This isn't "nonsense" as google means you to infer it… but it's not Terminator, either.

It's bais…
Again: we have discussed all of this before. We warned you that things like this were going to happen. We told you that the values embedded in these LLM/GPT-type "AI" systems were a) trash & b) woefully under-examined.

And yet here we are.

And that is also why I'm furious at CBS about this framing

…So *It Wouldn't Occur To Many Programmers Steeped In Cultures Where Eugenical Ideas Are The Norm To Screen For These Ideas.*

And so, when someone goes on to prompt these products using words like "resources" & "solutions" & "aging adults"?

There is a high chance of them getting… this, in response
…There are any number of fora on this here internet where you can find people posting the stance that disabled & old people are a drain on resources & should just die.

These ableist, eugenicist ideals are in fact rife, especially in silicon valley & adjacent cultures. We've talked about this, too.…
It's about the training data, & the weights given to the subsequent tokens & their relationships w/in the model.

When you have a system trained on the internet with not enough concern given to what that might mean or look like when it comes to topics like ageing & disability?

This what happens.

I want to talk to you a little bit about how and why Google's Gemini "AI" just told someone that they were a drain on resources and they should die. And, frankly, why I'm a little bit furious with CBS right now.

Because it's actually very simple, and we've even talked about it before, a few times:
