I guess, but the island never felt special until that moment and he does nothing with it… idk definitely nitpicking but I think it took away from the book more that to add to it

I LOVE the water rats wanting to cultivate the land. That’s a whole big rant, but this is the first time we see the vermin HAPPY to be conquered. They love that they get a chance to be peaceable

Also here’s my hot take of the book: Mokkan’s nightmares do not fit. I like the theory of the island mystique, but he was so unbothered by his actions up to that point that his siblings in the nightmare took me out of it a little. I think that scene added very little to the book

just kind of bash their heads into the problem, and as soon as they are like “okay we need to be smart about this” they get into Redwall. They are not inherently less of bogeymen than the stories portray them, but they’re so high on their own shit that they shoot themselves in the foot

Thoughts as I listen along cause I always struggle to summarize haha
I actually kind of get the slapstick comedy of the tree incident at Redwall. For me, it highlights something very obvious: the Marlfoxes think of themselves so highly that they don’t take the fight seriously. They again and again
