Yesterday we shared the Media Page Speed Benchmarks for the US, so now we're sharing the latest results for the EU/UK. Our friends at The Guardian had an LCP time of just over 2s, but 12 out of 14 sites failed to meet Google's 2.5s threshold.

These days, keeping up with the news feels more urgent than ever. Yet only three news sites in our Media Page Speed Benchmarks had LCP times below 3 seconds on mobile. The slowest sites had LCP times of almost 9 seconds!

It's the time at which the largest element in the viewport is rendered. It's only tracked on certain elements, e.g., IMG and VIDEO (see more here). As of August 2019, this is available in Chrome 77+. Largest Contentful Paint is one of Google's Core Web Vitals, along with Cumulative Layout Shift and Interaction to Next Paint. LCP may be present for a SPA navigation if the LCP candidate rendered during the transition is larger than the previous LCP. This is not considered a reliable metric for SPAs given that is it not a true 'continuous' metric.
