Just another MAMIL. To be found slowly pedalling around South Oxfordshire. I'm occasionally allowed to leave the county on good behaviour.
Made some errors on my Audax today: missed several turns+one of the controls. But the biggest “wally moment” was when I thought I had spotted @cbcycles.bsky.social & his Bianchi, so asked him if he’d managed to fix his front light. The chap I spoke to - Nick - had no idea what I was talking about! 😂

Henley Hilly Hundred Audax done. A bit of a slog up some of the hills but I’m a stubborn so-and-so and didn’t put my foot down!

Good to meet and ride with @diminutivefox.bsky.social for a while and sorry I didn’t realise you had punctured and carried on! 😳😀

Good job I packed that tape @pcorfe.bsky.social 😃 Running repairs…

Good morning! It’s Audax-O’clock so I’m on the way to Reading to do the “Henley Hilly Hundred”. 108kms and about 1,300m of climbing around the Chilterns AONB.

More #Audax prep madness this evening.

In case my mudguard fixings work loose during the ride, Canyon’s design choices force me to pack two keys - a 2.5 Hex for the fork/frame bolts and a T20 Torx for the stays. My multi-tool has neither! 🤦‍♂️

Air taxis? A “verti-port”? I don’t feel that this is a sensible solution to Oxford’s road congestion…

Could trams or air taxis help solve Oxford's traffic woes?
A congestion charge is the latest policy in Oxford to reduce traffic - but what is the alternative?

Today’s lunchtime “escape the laptop” - I took Gretl for a test ride after fitting the mudguards. No issues with the bike but my hands were getting proper pins and needles. Might need some mits with a bit more padding.

It was a tad windy up on Sires Hill (near Didcot).

Time to fit the mudguards for winter on der #Grizl.

And check the brakes ahead of this weekend’s #Audax. Plenty of material left on the pads so they went back in.

Managed to lose, then find, one of those tiny spring retention clips after scouring the garage floor & some salty language! 😀

I signed-up at the last minute for Edwin's "Henley Hilly Hundred" #Audax for Saturday 8th Nov. I've just looked at route/climbs and having feelings of "buyer's regret" 🤣 Those climbs are gonna be a real test, especially as I haven't spent much time on the bike of late. But #NoBacksies 😀

Escape the laptop - Friday edition: lots of lovely leaves, with a good mix of crunchy/squelchy.

Not fast, but good for the soul. And managed to miss the rain.

Today’s lunchtime “escape the laptop” was my little 10 mile TT course. I don’t take this stuff seriously at all, but was a good excuse to push, rather than trundling around.

29.8km/h avg. on my gravel tank - with zero optimisation for the run.

Got held up by traffic - must do better!

Bit off more than I could chew this morning. Thought I could do 60k off-road over gnarly single track & steep climbs before lunch. I bailed early!
Being under-biked/clothed didn’t help either.

Ridgeway area very misty and cold but still beautiful. I’ll try the full route again sometime.

Good afternoon from Center Parcs.

Managed 10k looping round the site, trying to burn-off yesterday’s visit to the Pancake House! 😀

Quite hilly here so some climbing to test the legs.

Needs must!

Finally got a ride in today after almost two weeks. Was all over the place getting ready - forgot to fill the bidons, then almost set off “sans helmet”. 🤦
Nice circuit though, over some of my favourite roads.
(L) Goring lock, (R) Farm Hill, above Cholsey.

Barely any cycling this past fortnight 😞 as we’ve been busy working in the house. Sad to say my “heritage” tape measure from Do It All (remember them?) did not make it out alive! 😀

“Share with care”.

First ride for over a week, blew off a few cobwebs. Also, out midweek after dinner, in shorts and a T-shirt. Probably my last chance to do that this side of Christmas! 😀

Managed a 57k gravel loop this morning, including a short run along the Ridgeway in glorious sunshine. September is going to be very busy, so probably my last chance before the rain makes it a mud bath.

Did a local loop with my boy today. A tad windy but worth it for the gorgeous views.

I threw in some gravel to make it a bit more challenging. He had a spill - not on the ruff stuff but went off the edge of a pavement! No tears but some scrapes and pains. Solved by ice cream! 😀👍

That turned out to be a nice ride, even though I’m out of shape (I compensate with my stubbornness😀). 185km and a modest 1445m of elevation gain.
Stretching it out to 200km wasn’t really on the cards and the extra distance wouldn’t have made me happier.

Just turned off the B480 near Chalgrove. Properly feeling it now! Next up: Pyrton, then Watlington, Wallingford and home.

Onwards! 💪🚴‍♂️🚴‍♂️😀

Wendlebury: I’ve found a bench in a shady spot. I’m gonna sit on it for a while as I’ve got stomach cramps after chugging too much water at a garage a while back. 🤦‍♂️
