Dewey Decimal geek. Gloucestershire cricket and Swindon Town fan. Counties will always be better than franchises.
A long away day to Fleetwood, leaving the house at 6am and just getting back. Decent enough point on the road for STFC to go top of the table but a nagging feeling it should have been all three. Switched off on the stroke of half-time to concede after a really good 1st half.

A hectic old weekend with Munroe's 93rd minute winner for STFC on a glorious autumn afternoon yesterday undoubtedly the highlight.

Half-term travels: a frustrating 0-0 at Swindon last Saturday, before a refreshing short break on the south coast - visiting Jane Austen's House the main focus to mark the 250th year of her birth. 2nd place in a Halloween quiz last night where it was good to finally have a 🎃 Sam Hain question!

Swindon 2 Notts County 2. Good to be back at SN1 at last. A sluggish performance at times but decent character shown to come back twice when well off our best.

Four games in 26 hours over the weekend, starting at Stockport 3pm on Saturday and finishing at Anfield 4:45pm Sunday, via Oldham and Hill Dickinson Stadium. Crazy travel plans all worked out nicely and the two Liverpool grounds finally took me to 92/92.

A heavy defeat sadly at Lord's today for Glos but good to get one last nearly-full day in to complete my 2025 summer.

Always a sad moment watching the players leave the pitch for the final time in late September. Saw the last ball of 2025; already looking forward to the first ball of 2026.

A hectic but brilliant weekend, with a wonderful Finals Day the highlight yesterday. Somerset's win richly deserved, Lynn's hundred breathtaking & several key records broken.

Watching Hampshire v Northants also completed my big project: watching every county face every other county over the years.

An absolutely brilliant day! The trophy stays in the West Country for the third consecutive year. A very high quality final in particular.

The Bank Holiday weekend though did see some south-coast sport as part of our travels - firstly Plymouth v Blackpool and then onto Hampshire v Derbyshire.

The past week has been mainly spent away from sporting venues, enjoying the beautiful south-west coast. Sennen, Porthleven, Penzance and Plymouth all real highlights from a glorious few days.

Somerset's 150th anniversary game at home to Warwickshire today. The visitors chase down their 310 target with 3 wickets and 3 balls spare after a contest that fluctuated regularly throughout yet another glorious afternoon.

Three 50 over games over the past few days at Kibworth, York and Chester-le-Street. A lovely northern Metro Bank Cup road trip, although only Somerset's win at York could be described as even slightly close.

Always a relief when a trip planned in the depths of winter enjoys such glorious weather.

A fine advert for 50 over cricket at Nevil Road today - Glos triumph by 3 wickets in the penultimate over thanks to a composed innings from Tommy Boorman at the end. Early wickets for Shaw, a century for Handscomb, 96 for Bracey and a five-fer for the impressive Alex Green. 3 wins out of 3 for Glos.

A quieter cricket week for me but Tuesday was a lovely final day at Cheltenham for 2025 and a good solid win for Gloucestershire as the 50 over competition began.

It was wonderful to attend 7 days here this year (would have been 9 if the weather had been better).

Back to Cheltenham today for the final day vs Middlesex, although I very nearly headed to Worcester when the umpires fussed for so long this morning.

It became a fun and relaxed afternoon watching a scramble for bonus points, Joe Phillips' maiden ton and Glos getting to 400 in the final over.

Another lovely day at the Cheltenham Festival - Williamson great to watch as always as he took his overnight century to 153. Glos 54-1 in reply to Middlesex's 445 at close of day 2.

First visit to Canterbury in 11 years today. A lovely mature century from Rehan Ahmed put Leicestershire into a strong position before 7-100 from Matt Parkinson brought Kent back into it. A long old day of public transport journeys but well worth it.

Four lovely days at Cheltenham despite the eventual 9 wkt defeat to Lancashire deep in the last hour. Good crowds, lots of events, a Lancashire 9th wicket record stand, Jimmy bowling & plenty of entertaining cricket. One sloppy session cost Glos dearly. Tom Hartley ton & 10-fer player of the week.

A quieter weekend at the end of a long term. Took in Swindon's 5-1 win at Chippenham on Saturday afternoon, with some club cricket next door before and after. First half very encouraging before the intensity dropped off significantly after half-time.

Three T20 games in the past week at Bristol, Southampton and Cardiff, plus a relaxing day at Weymouth as well, whilst all the Test drama has been going on.
July 14, 2025 at 9:53 PM
Over the past week I've thoroughly enjoyed the women's T20 international at Bristol, day 4 of the Edgbaston Test and finally two last-ball domestic T20s at The Oval yesterday (including a tie in the women's game). Lots of travelling and late nights but wouldn't swap it for anything.

An emotional rollercoaster of a cricketing weekend. A tense last-ball win for Glos on Friday night, a quiet afternoon watching club cricket in Devizes on Saturday, followed by a sombre atmosphere back at Nevil Road today as the news broke about David Lawrence. Derbyshire well on top by the close.

Cricket travels this weekend took me to Edgbaston for their 'Midlands Mania' double header. Wins for Derbyshire and Notts, the latter off the very last ball, with over 800 runs in the day. Not convinced the DJ set in-between really worked.

Made a long-overdue return to South Wilts CC in Salisbury this afternoon for some NCCA T20 action between Wiltshire and Devon. A win apiece in two pretty close games.
June 8, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Yesterday evening also saw the return of T20 to Nevil Road but the champions were not at their best in a narrow 4-run defeat to Kent. Tom Rogers the difference with a miserly spell whilst all the other bowlers got hit around.
