Desperately sad to learn of the death of Robin Smith. Watching his savage cutting of a strong West Indies pace attack when he made 148* in the 2nd Test at Lord's, June 22nd 1991 stands out as one of my strongest cricketing memories. Coming in at 60 for 4 he steered England to safety (Patrick Eagar)

Great long weekend planning my 2026 cricketing summer travels - particularly looking forward to visiting new grounds Repton and Gosforth. A county schedule that, for once, doesn't leave me shaking my head in disbelief at last.

Quite like the county fixture release dates being split, spreading the magic and planning throughout the week!

T20 schedule seems pretty sensible overall, reducing pinch points significantly, prioritising Fridays and Sundays and giving the CC two rounds in the middle during the longest June days.

Through an ingrained belief that they have an ability not given to any previous generation of Test batters to thrash their way to victory from any scenario, they surrendered a wonderful chance

They were weakened. This was big opportunity

But hey, stick with Crawley, go golfing & keep telling us you are right

The resources and the rhetoric don’t match the results against the major teams.

So I wake up at 2am, grit my teeth through England batting, then leave for work at 7am and miss all the fun.

The other half wakes up just before 7am and gets to enjoy England bowling so well all morning.

No justice sometimes 😂🏏

A totally brainless half-hour. Any hopes that smart Bazball had developed over the past year well and truly extinguished.

In fairness, we don’t know how bad this is until Australia have had a chance to bat and are 342-2.

Quick 25 minute doze during the first lunch break of the series. Body clock already all over the place.

Starc superb as feared. Without that Green wicket, it would have been a half-decent fightback but an already familiar first-day feeling taking hold.

A long away day to Fleetwood, leaving the house at 6am and just getting back. Decent enough point on the road for STFC to go top of the table but a nagging feeling it should have been all three. Switched off on the stroke of half-time to concede after a really good 1st half.

A hectic old weekend with Munroe's 93rd minute winner for STFC on a glorious autumn afternoon yesterday undoubtedly the highlight.

Half-term travels: a frustrating 0-0 at Swindon last Saturday, before a refreshing short break on the south coast - visiting Jane Austen's House the main focus to mark the 250th year of her birth. 2nd place in a Halloween quiz last night where it was good to finally have a 🎃 Sam Hain question!

Swindon 2 Notts County 2. Good to be back at SN1 at last. A sluggish performance at times but decent character shown to come back twice when well off our best.

Wow. Late drama as Tasmania beat WA by 3 runs in a Sheffield Shield thriller!

The West was cruising at 5/198 before slumping to 8/215 neediing 259. Two late strikes for Gabe Bell (pictured) did tue work for the Island State.

TAS 171 & 259
WA 172 & 255

Four games in 26 hours over the weekend, starting at Stockport 3pm on Saturday and finishing at Anfield 4:45pm Sunday, via Oldham and Hill Dickinson Stadium. Crazy travel plans all worked out nicely and the two Liverpool grounds finally took me to 92/92.

Back to STFC in a couple of weeks but first the small matter of a crazy four-game weekend to kick-start my 2025-26 football season and finally complete 'The 92'. Today though it's two revisits to grounds I last went to over 15 years ago...

A heavy defeat sadly at Lord's today for Glos but good to get one last nearly-full day in to complete my 2025 summer.

Always a sad moment watching the players leave the pitch for the final time in late September. Saw the last ball of 2025; already looking forward to the first ball of 2026.
