Film-lover, reader, 'Mats/Westerberg/Stinson fanboy, perpetually covered in cat hair, undisciplined writer working to develop better habits, probably nowhere near as kind as my mom and wife claim but hopefully a decent human.

Glad that WXNA is doing this. Jim and I spent a lot of late nights together in the old Scene office. One time that included eating cold pizza and kimchi.

I’ll be on the air Friday July 25 to talk about my friend and mentor. I miss him every day.

I've seen bassist Jack Lawrence multiple times around Nashville, but only (briefly) spoken with him once, after my wife reminded him that one of her former bands opened for The Greenhorns years before.
He was kind.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

Back in the 90s, Jack Hill sold mail order VHS copies of certain titles from his filmography. Money was too tight for my 15 year old self to purchase one, but I sent a fan letter to the address & he sent a kind, encouraging letter in return.
In honor of his birthday today, here's a Coffy radio spot

Back in the 90s, tracking down a copy of ERASERHEAD wasn't exactly easy for this then-teenaged film buff from Tennessee. I had to shell out $25 plus shipping for a bootleg VHS.

After witnessing multiple similar interactions with healthcare workers, this moving comic from @nicolelaliberty.bsky.social is the read I needed today.
My wife @nicolelaliberty.bsky.social published a beautiful, nostalgic, comic about fatphobia today which you can read online for free. If it touches you, please share.

Hand the exceptional Sonny Carl Davis a lifetime achievement award! 2024 was the year I finally realized he played both the disgruntled fast food customer in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH & the charismatic Cowboy in LAST NIGHT AT THE ALAMO. It only took me approximately 150 viewings of the former.

For classic film press kits, long out of print books (both serious works and fun movie novelizations), tons of old time radio...I could go on and on. A truly invaluable resource.

Surely I’m not the first to wonder if Calvin Fichoeder’s look was inspired by a late in life Nicholas Ray.

There's A LOT going on in this movie, but Lupino grounds it, tough enough to face down gangsters, tender enough that her sadness breaks your heart.
Also well known for being one of the prime inspirations for Scorsese's NEW YORK, NEW YORK.

Browsing Peter Bogdanovich's card file of films seen from 1952-1970 is my nerdy dream of a fun afternoon. Makes me curious where his archives current reside.

Sharing this Hendrix deep cut in honor of his birthday. While not a radical reinvention à la "Watchtower," the volume and raw energy of this cover leaves the Beatles original in the dust.
