A friend of mine sent me this photo this morning! I thought everyone would appreciate how genuinely thrilled I was to see the tomb of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York on my recent trip to Westminster Abbey. And no, I didn't know this photo was being taken!

Spending some time today reading the proofs of my paper for the Royal Studies Journal, which is due out in December!

This paper discusses who might have commissioned the Psalter of Anne Boleyn, a beautiful illuminated manuscript held by Wormsley Library, given to Anne Boleyn in around 1531.

Just popped into Blackwell's in Oxford to see if they had a copy of "Elizabeth Boleyn", only to find they'd sold their copy on Saturday and ordered another one in! Great news 😊 Everyone remember to support your brick and mortar shops 📖

I've had my first Amazon UK review! The reader gave my 3 stars and said they didn't enjoy the speculative aspects of the book.

New purchase from my local Oxfam 📖 It is very far outside my period of study, but I'm fascinated by prehistory, and how our modern viewpoint shapes studies of the ancient past. Should be an insightful read!

The name "King Edward" is carved onto the bed, which is decorated with coats of arms and symbols of the Tudor dynasty, such as a portcullis and the Tudor rose.

As the king, Edward is sumptuously dressed. He wears a livery collar, several gold rings, and the ribbon of the Order of the Garter. Prince Richard is dressed more plainly and holds a book of hours open, symbolising the boys' piety in the face of death.

Edward is looking at the viewer, oblivious to their fate, while Richard (the brother rumoured to have survived as the figure known to history as Perkin Warbeck) looks anxiously at the door, where a figure can be seen moving just outside. The dog also looks towards the door, aware of the threat.

It depicts an imagined scene of Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury in the Tower of London. Richard is on the left, looking towards the door, and Edward is on the right, staring out at the viewer. The portrait is full of symbolism.

At the Louvre today, and everyone was terribly excited about the Mona Lisa, but I was more excited to see this portrait of the Princes in the Tower 🤴🤴 The portrait is called "The Children of Edward" and was painted in Paris by Paul Delaroche in 1830.
