Here's @sophie-neiman.bsky.social's latest for @afp.com, on how palliative care reshaped the Ugandan health sector. Photo credit to fellow IPAU member Katumba Badru Sultan!
Dr. Anne Merriman, who died in May at 90, pioneered palliative care in Africa. In 1993, only 3 countries offered it. By her death, her Ugandan hospice had cared for 40,000 people—and her model had reached 37 countries. For @en.afp.com with 📸 by Katumba Badru👇

Uganda is one of the largest coffee producers in the world - but women's roles in the industry are often overlooked. Thanks to Patrick Onen for sharing his story on a women-led coffee business in Mbale:

Malcolm X was born one hundred years ago today. It's impossible to distil his complicated legacy into a single idea - but as the US government continues to enable serious global injustice, his efforts to put Black Americans in touch with African and Asian activists seem as relevant as ever.

I wrote in first person for a change--reflecting on the deep difficulties journalists face when we must bear witness to truly senseless violence and suffering. My latest from Goma for @csmonitor.bsky.social 👇

After taking the city of Goma, M23 forced displaced people to go back home. This is a possible war crime, so I went to one village to see how people are rebuilding amid destroyed houses and fields littered with ammunition. My latest from Congo 👇

When Rwandan-backed M23 rebels invaded Goma, some 50 rape survivors arrived at Jeanne Nacatche Banyere's door. But Maman Jeanne could do little more than write their names and offer a hug. Her women's shelter had run out out of funds. 👇
