A few years ago, a friend of mine and I found a recipe for mac and cheese muffins. Food aside, we thought the ending frame of the video was hilarious. I made it my email's profile picture and forgot about it.

Until I'm sending an email for professional reasons.

So, like, you are my best friend. Not my "internet best friend," my best friend -- end of sentence. You have always been among the brightest lights in my life, and I have always thought of you as the best this world has to offer. In my darkest hours, you have lifted me up more than you will ever know. The impact you've had on me, and certainly on others, cannot be overstated -- you are a wonderful, inspiring, and encouraging presence in this world. You make me want to better myself -- to live, as much as I can, for as long as I can. You matter. Everything you do matters. Everything. And, more importantly, you aren't alone. Please, please reach out to your friends. We love you a whole lot, and we're here for you, to listen and to provide whatever distractions we can. It's so much easier to navigate this shit together than it is by yourself. You don't have to wake up and try again tomorrow alone. To quote someone I love very much, "I'm with you every step of the way, even if it's from across the country."

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, and I hope everything slows/calms down soon. I'm sending you so many good vibes in the meantime! Starting with this incredibly dapper cat that I saw in Japan! Look at her, giving the bad vibes her best judgmental stare.

Another update! My regular oncologist messaged me to basically say those two 'concerns' were actually non-issues. So, uh.. Good news?! Good news.

An update.

I'm ready to fight again. Just get me in the ring already.
Been waiting until I had something a bit more concrete to share, but... to sum up, it's in my colon. Per my doctor, the 'silver lining' is that, with my type of cancer, recurrence is usually seen 'everywhere' but it's isolated to one spot -- she attributes this to my PARP inhibitor mostly working as intended. There was a question of how to approach treatment but it seems I'm a good candidate for radiation, so I've scheduled a consultation with a radiation oncologist for the 6th. No idea what things look like beyond that, though -- things are moving much slower than they did in 2023, but I'm trying to tell myself that, if there's no sense of urgency, then that's probably a good thing. I'm just anxious to get it going, though. I've barely been sleeping and I have almost no nails left to bite.

Some days, I feel really good. The best I've felt in a long time.

Others? Well.. I'm doing my best. It's all I can do.
In Aug, I had my 9mo remission check-up. Although things look/feel good internally, my NP felt it her duty to inform me that my CA-125 has been climbing since July. Still within normal range (<35), but increasing enough that she wanted me to know so I wouldn't feel blindsided if it encroached on abnormal. In Sep, it went up another 3pts. Still within normal, but up. Someone 2y post remission with breast cancer tried to reassure me this happens sometimes and can happen for many benign reasons, like illness, infection, etc. But I'm scared. I feel great. I'm working out 5+ days per week, walking just about every day, eating as best I can (w/occasional cheat days), taking meds as prescribed. But everyday I have to sit with "What if"s. There's literally nothing to do until the numbers encroach on abnormal, so I'm stuck on a slow, uncertain march. Some days, I'm happy/enjoying the day. Others, I'm thinking about dark things, nearly freaking out. I'm struggling. I fucking hate this.
