Disney's Aladdin is weird when you realize this entire story is told by a guy trying to sell you a lamp. And that either he's lying and this is a regular lamp, or he just told you the story of how this lamp contains a malevolent genie inside it. He's not a great salesman

I'll bet even after they blew up Alderan, there were hardcore supporters who were like "but Emperor Palatine has been good for my business..."

Still very unsure how I feel about a running man remake, but it seems to be sticking to the novel more, and Edgar Wright directing and co-writing, I'm willing to give it more of a chance that some of the other remakes of 80s action flicks, which have by and large been terrible.

Thomas Jefferson was 44 when he began what many in 2025 STILL consider a romantic tryst or loving affair with Sally Hemings.

Ms. Hemings had no legal capacity to consent to such a relationship not only because she was enslaved, Jefferson's property,

BUT ALSO BECAUSE SHE WAS 14-YEARS-OLD. /1

There was a line in an article I read about how "rock the casbah" somehow became really popular with far right conservatives, and boy, I have some bad news for them about the guy who wrote the lyrics to that song, and the message of the song itself

It's actually good news but they won't like it

#Startrek observation:

So 40s jazz is a thing that is still popular, Kirk, spock, and McCoy know all about Nazis, but they have never heard of Clark Gable. I call bullshit.

A side note to all of the Springsteen stuff:

It's been my understanding since about 1985 that Bruce doesn't like being called "The Boss" but he's pretty much given up on telling people not to do it and "come to terms with being stuck with it"

So I don't call him that, because basic respect

Btw, Bruce Springsteen is what a guy who comes from nothing and becames a billionaire through hard work and talent looks like. The thing that is most conservatives wet dream. But he said a mean about their cult leader, so

I'm pretty sure recreating my vinyl collection and starting back up on trying to make music is my mid life crisis

As mid life crises go, it's certainly better and healthier than buying a convertible and trying to date a 20 year old

The ashes of my dead dog would do a better job as president than Donald Trump. Technically nothing in the constitution says the president has to be human or alive, so

"I'll never tell anyone what to do ever again"

#Sinners was in fact the best vampire movie I've seen this decade, and it's not even a close race. Probably won't win major oscars, but that's because the academy doesn't tend to like genre films. It deserves the awards though

Sitting in a seat waiting for #Sinners to start, looking forward to it, I personally find anything by Coogler with Michael B Jordan is "can't miss". MBJ is basically Coogler's Deniro

This week in "now I've seen everything"

Saw a dude standing between lanes holding a sign on Rt 50, I assumed it would say your usual "homeless, need help, lost job".

Instead, what this sign said was:

"Eat
Mo
P*ssy"

Jeopardy: Final category is "Literary Helpers".

Her: I thought that said "Literary Herpes."

Me: ...I've read books I would describe that way....
