Some takes on housing discourse:

1. measures of cost burdens at local levels are close to useless. for instance, of counties with > 100,000 renter households, the *least* rent burdened is San Francisco
2. homeownership doesn't measure what you think it does
3. housing shortage estimates are weird

Good morning. I've got a banger new post out today that develops a new method for placing voters on the left-right ideological spectrum, and adds a new, "non-ideological"/affordability axis to usual way we chart & think about US voters (esp swing voters). www.gelliottmorris.com/p/not-just-l...
Not just left vs right: Most voters think about affordability and material wellbeing, not in ideological terms
Most voters want a party that emphasizes cost of living issues and makes the world a better place. Few Americans think in solidly ideologically terms. "Moderates" are mostly non-ideological.

It's hard to overstate what a disaster Kash Patel is. See the many disturbing details here, from @vermontgmg.bsky.social, an expert on the FBI. The K-shaped economy is exactly what restrictive monetary policy looks like. While the Fed's goals are for the overall economy, its tool of interest rates affects financially constrained households and firms the most. My new @opinion.bloomberg.com piece. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
How the Fed Can Change the K-Shaped Economy

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

Farms have a very special kind of bankruptcy that's super debtor-friendly, and is designed to KEEP THEM IN BUSINESS without having to sell off much or any land.

And it used to only be for family farms that make most of their $$ from farming. But Trump expanded it to all kinds of wealthy people. 🤠

So let's talk about well-off people who talk about how much they respect manual labor... because talk is cheaper than paying people right.
