Why does Starmer oppose the death penalty on basis mistakes are made, but not assisted dying? Does he really believe vulnerable people won't get sucked into a medically-assisted suicide they shouldn't be able to consent to?

The parallels with the grooming gangs that have operated across British towns and cities for decades are striking too. Again girls abused horribly, but seen as complicit in their rape. Again, men hiding behind status to make themselves untouchable - this time their ethnicity.

SUPER excited to be getting stuck into my proof copy of The Art of a Lie this weekend, the latest historical thriller from the fabulous @laurasrobinson.bsky.social. It’s hitting the bookstands in July!

(And the first and probably only ever time there’s a novel cameo named after me 🤩💫)

The final episode of my Radio 4 series The Body Politic - on assisted dying - is at 11am this morning, and on BBC Sounds after. We step back to look at the case for assisted dying- and why there’s such strong opposition.

I've written for the The Spectator on how making The Body Politic, a series for Radio 4, has changed the way I see religion.

Ep 2 on foetal screening and abortion is airing at 11am tomorrow, ep 3 on assisted dying on Mon 27th, and it'll be on BBC Sounds after broadcast.

More here. This is an attack on the freedom of the press in relation to a case of the utmost seriousness - the almost certainly preventable torture and murder of a small child.

I read these sections of the judgment open-mouthed. A high court judge implying family court judges have the same level of agency as a lookout on the Titanic or a foot solider on the Somme. And revealing a lack of understanding of domestic/child abuse and its risks for children.
