OK. Tariff corner. Today, the first Trump tariffs came into force for EU & UK goods. First up: steel. As of March 12 steel articles (defined in Proclamation 9705) are subject to a 25% tariff. So are derivative steel articles (defined in Proclamation 9980). /1

US will raise tariffs on steel, aluminium imports with "no exemptions, no exceptions"... with possible exemption for Australia.

But it also looks like US steel industry is already operating at ~70% capacity. That means limited scope for import substitution without rapid investment.

Indian PM heading to D.C. next week to discuss trade, defence cooperation and H-1B visas with the Trump administration. To ease trade tensions, India already cut import duties on motorcycles recently, taking a page from the 'Harley-Davidson' playbook of economic diplomacy.
