Those who shun progressive advancements in the sciences and social policies should just rebrand themselves as Regressives as it's far more on brand than anything else at this point.

This goes doubly for anyone who uses "again" in their slogan.

Can we just rename ‘Generative AI’ ‘Derivative AI’ already? It doesn’t generate anything. It’s derivative by definition.

I would like to understand why people in the area I live in refuse to go the speed limit. I’m so tired of going 40 in a 65 for no reason & my car hates it, too.

I’m also tired of these same people pulling in front of me & refusing to get up to speed when I’m going 65. My car hates that more.

I spent 8 straight hours Saturday night writing up a ~4k post for my Cyber Anthro blog which had been on hiatus. It talks about books I read last year & then discusses (rants) about AI.

If you have a few spare cycles, it might be a fun read:

Meet Belmont or Monty for short. We brought him home from the shelter today with the intent to adopt if he’s a good fit.

It’s been about 5 hours, but I think he’s found a home. <3

Other than finally getting to do our twice already delayed yearly family trip this week, I think we'll be adding a new furry shelter friend as a family holiday present. We've always been a 2 dog house but after my GSD died a year ago we've only had the one rescue rescue. Time for another.

Setting up 3 ipads and 3 watches for 3 kids has been a bit of a nightmare filled day. I would love to fix all of the parental control experiences of the world. I could practically write a book about all the ways to do them better than any company does today.

When you think of the word enshitification (or if this is the first time you've seen it) what is the first thought or example that comes to mind?

This may or may not be my new favorite word and one I end up using way too often these days.

I went for my M.S. on a bit of a lark because I loved a design anthro undergrad class & 1 of my profs on my MS committee (which was a terminal degree @ my school) was in an adjacent PhD program. He suggested I apply & I ended up getting in & getting a fellowship. First 4 years were paid for.
What's the moment of luck that's had the biggest impact for your academic career? For me, it was how I wouldn't have gotten a PhD fellowship if it wasn't for the 1st-ranked person declining, which meant that I was awarded the fellowship as 2nd-ranked applicant. That was my last shot at a PhD.

Finally caught covid for the first time after 4 years. Thankfully we reupped our vaccines last month. Just sucks because we had to cancel our fam trip plans for this weekend.

This is the second time our family trip has been sidelined this year. The first time was a hurricane….

3rd times a charm?

Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school.

I'm Solli, and I'm walking around helping everyone because the work was too easy and I finished super fast, so now I have a permanent desk in the hall that I go to when I'm done so I will let other people learn on their own.
Introduce yourself with your worst feedback from school.👇

I’m Rachel, and I’m doodling in my textbook when I should be working on fractions.

I’m Rex and I’m disrupting the class, because some people actually want to learn.

one of the reasons bluesky works differently is because early users waged a successful fight to get the devs to prioritize safety features to protect communities at risk

as a result bluesky now has a suite of controls that i think are unmatched on social media

here’s the list, lmk what i’ve missed

Now that more people are popping up over here I should probably try to find my fellow ancients of the internet again. I lost so many people after many of us quickly fled the dumpster fire that X became.

Not today though. Last week was a beating with work travel. Time to smash pixels instead.

I was traveling for work all week so it's been about a week since I've played any games. One of my directs asked if I was OK as a result. I don't know, am I? I started playing a mobile game with my daughter today and yeah - maybe not. Time to start up some D4.
