Every day during Trump’s reign is somehow more disgraceful than what came before. It’s absolutely disgusting watching this.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

heartbreaking
If you have to get permission to teach in your area of expertise from people who are definitionally not qualified to adjudicate your expertise then you are no longer working at a university.

You’re working at a state propaganda factory.

Among the things I hate to leave behind are these bookshelves. We worked with Philadephia Woodworking (woot!) to create adjustable shelves and bottom panels to allow access to wires. ✨ Scribing to the wavy walls of a 200yo house is no joke!

people playing music/videos on their phone speakers in public is more than just mildly annoying and is instead a leading indicator of the decline of community and empath
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

The full new Philadelphia Art Museum branding is out. I have mixed feelings, which is normal for rebrandings.

Directionally there's some good (I really like the griffin), but I think it also invites an identity crisis.

A thread with some thoughts:

I appreciate that this report captures the sense that Fringe season is the best time to be in Philly.
After sampling sardine-eating clowns, durational video games, and all manner of participatory theatre over nearly a week at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, critic Pria Dahiya reports, she may have trouble returning to run-of-the-mill theatregoing. www.americantheatre.org/2025/09/19/n...
No Bystanders at the Philly Fringe
After taking in nearly a week of performances, some durational and all participatory on some level, can I really go back to everyday, run-of-the-mill theatre?

I do not care for the number of cameras I am captured by on any given day. I'm a nice little lady doing no evil deeds but on my walk to the damn library I hear this little voice coming from above saying "You are being recorded" and I feel like I'm in a dystopian teen novel, I hate it.

A dramatic, extremely worrying moment; over 61,000 people held in ICE detention. That is the highest number ever on record in United States history; roughly 6,000 higher than the previous record set under Trump six years ago, and over 21,000 higher than when Trump took office just seven months ago.
ICE just released updated detention statistics.

As of August 24, ICE is holding 61,226 people at authorized facilities around the United States and its Territories.

Is “diversity taboo” or is this a segregationist regime that hopes to reinstate open white supremacy.

It is absolutely wild (and fundamentally dishonest) that media is still reaching for euphemism instead of simply calling this racism.

The new ICE detention facility at Fort Bliss is the largest in U.S. history. It’s also one of five sites where Texas held detainees of Japanese descent — including American-born civilians — during World War II.

Also the fact that Cherelle Parker is not out front and center doing everything in her power to protest the SEPTA cuts basically invalidates the entire point of having a mayor. I understand the direct impact she can have is limited but she should still be incessantly denouncing it.

this is the level of funding where all the possibilities for American politics that have been described as hyperbolic over the past decades - the comparisons to Nazi Germany and other nightmares of the 20th century - become logistically possible and politically likely
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.
