I'm not 100% convinced that this is the turning point but it might be, with Trump at just 36%

An interesting unrelated "factoid" I uncovered in my research today: in 1923, the Chicago Police superintendent estimated 60% of his officers had been corrupted by bootleggers and gangsters. Anyway.
Chicago spent more than $212 million on overtime for members of the Chicago Police Department in the first 10 months of 2025 — 6% more than the amount Mayor Brandon Johnson plans to set aside for police overtime in all of 2026, records show. https://to.wttw.com/49QGPU6
Chicago Spent $212M on Police Overtime So Far This Year, 6% More Than New Limit Set for 2026
Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling told the Chicago City Council on Nov. 5 that he was confident that CPD would be able to spend no more than $200 million on overtime in 2026.

it sure seems like what happened is that the admin told hegseth and maybe rubio they could do whatever they wanted with the military, but do not intend to offer any cover, which is why, if you are enlisted, you need to pay close attention to whether your orders coming from command are actually legal
everyone is correctly noting that they’re throwing bradley under the bus, but they’re also throwing hegseth under it
REPORTER: Does the administration deny that that second strike happened, or did it happen and the administration denies that Hegseth gave the order?

LEAVITT: The latter. Secretary Hegseth authorized Admiral Bradley to conduct these kinetic strikes. He worked well within his authority and the law.

So uhhh, giving an order and then denying that you gave that order because it would get you in trouble so instead you just hang your subordinates out to dry, that kind of sounds like the height of dishonor, huh?

thinking more about this: it is highly ironic that at the same time that it serves as a test case for the "unitary executive," this administration is all but being led by two subordinate officials with no immediate political accountability.

1) You are not going to be able to know for sure who or where an order came from, much less if it is legal

2) The President and SecDef will disavow any order that retroactively proves to be unpopular or risky

A basic and intuitive understanding of the law is that punishments should not be retroactive upon a policy change.

This is even worse. There is no formal policy change, they are simply penalizing couples for following common practice - explicitly allowed by Congress - for decades.
