I’m curious whether they’ll even be able to collect unemployment benefits, since some of them are saying the alleged reason for their firing was “poor performance“.

I’m in Mexico, and nobody uses the mail service here. Strictly private carriers. I lived here three years before I saw a mail truck, the only time I’ve ever seen one.
