Last month I had the opportunity to write a short piece for E-IR regarding 🇯🇵/🇰🇷 relations. Sharing it here!
Opinion – Japan-South Korea Relations: Breaking the Cycle?
As Japan and South Korea share similar values, they would benefit from strengthening bilateral ties.

It would’ve been a landslide victory if it were a regular election. As a voter, the margin is still narrow and disappointing considering that this election followed a *martial law* and the PPP was complicit.

Korea on pace to set a record in voter turnout. With about 3 hours to go turnout is over 70%. Turnout is higher in the progressive Southwest than in conservative Southeast suggesting Lee Jae-myung’s victory will be quite decisive.

April 25th, always.
This poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner resonates deeply: "This is the dawn I was waiting for, the pure day where we emerge from the night and silence, free in time."

Amazing read for those who woke up later (me)
Yoon himself will not attend today's impeachment trial. If he is impeached, he will be immediately removed from the presidency. The government is required to hold a new presidential election within 60 days.

South Korean President Yoon was removed from office 123 days after attempting martial law, following a unanimous Constitutional Court ruling. People across Korea are celebrating in the streets, while millions in the Korean diaspora watched the decision via livestream.

Mas nunca vi um governo e um primeiro ministro tão incompetentes. E merece uma censura por isso.

1/ The impeachment proceedings against President Yoon are reaching their conclusion.

The Constitutional Court must determine if his December martial law declaration violated South Korea’s democratic order.

Here are the key questions the court must consider:

1/ I've obtained the 101-page indictment against President Yoon Suk Yeol detailing the December 3, 2024 martial law incident. He's charged with leading an insurrection (내란우두머리).

Here's a breakdown of the allegations:
According to 101-page indictment obtained by lawmakers, orders were given at the presidential office just before martial law declaration on Dec 3. Lee then called police chief at 11:34pm and fire agency chief at 11:37pm to coordinate planned media shutdown.

Yoon has been arrested on charges of leading an insurrection. However, an interesting legal debate surrounds his charges. In Korea, insurrection and military rebellion are distinct crimes, with differing penalties under the law.
