Interesting research showing that scientists can simultaneously experience feelings of enthusiasm about their work and frustration about its uptake - I can relate to that
💡 Spotlight | This week, Carbon Brief speaks to Dr Friederike Hartz, a research and policy associate at @ucl.ac.uk, about the different ways climate scientists are feeling and taking responsibility for the knowledge they hold.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.

Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.

2024 was the warmest year on record with an average global temperature 1.6°C above pre-industrial level.

It's the first year to exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial level, with every month but one since July 23 surpassing this threshold.

How extreme was the weather this year? Is a question we, @wwattribution.bsky.social , get asked every year. Looking back at the events we studied in detail & some new stats, we try to give an answer www.worldweatherattribution.org/when-risks-b... - in short: it was pretty bad, but things can change!

We can’t look at climate change, biodiversity loss, and human wellbeing in separate silos anymore.

Next — we need to look for effective, evidence-based solutions at the intersection of climate, nature, and people.

Today, I joined a rich book club discussion on "After Geoengineering" with the wonderful author Holly Buck. I appreciate the humanity lens when approaching such topics on climate intervention. Scientists and decision-makers should adopt this approach more often

I've started working on this starter pack (Hydrology+Hydrogeology+Water in general) to help friends/colleagues who are migrating from the other place.

Please note that this is work in progress and that more people will be added. Feel free to suggest BlueSky handles in comments.
