Ok I went back for more context and at the start of that chapter section he talks about paradoxes in a way that I think kind of makes sense, but actually I don’t think any of these are necessarily paradoxical. This might be a case of just misusing the word/concept?

Sociolinguists, is this paragraph in the new Algospeak book accurate? I thought the paradox was that even though it seems like we are all sounding more similar, regional dialects are actually diverging increasingly? I can imagine there’s some nuance which admittedly is not a strength of this book
