"Astoria" by Peter Stark is a pretty good one in this category. I would consider "A Perfect Storm" or Krakauer books to be page turners, but not really history. "Astoria" is at the intersection of the Venn diagram b/c I actually learned a bunch I didn't know before.

Besides the clear macroeconomic reasoning here, what does it even mean for "Switzerland" or "South Korea" to invest in the United States? I'm pretty sure those countries have market economies where investment decisions are made by private companies.
