Releasing a statement claiming thousands of scientists agree with a position only to have to publicly retract it because they don't is as good as having done a poll before making claims? In terms of optics alone that seems so much worse. If he's just making shit up great, if not this seems reckless.

Ok but what if it didn't? That would be disheartening, but still true. I hope the majority would come out in support of the letter, but if they weren't asked then implying that it reflects the majority view of the group is dishonest when the presidents don't actually know that it does. That matters.

Start by advocating for ranked choice or any kind of more intelligent voting system than the one we have now. Starting at the local level, and building from there. I'm afraid it's already too late, but it's the only way for third parties to ever become viable.

Is he just a private citizen though? I am unclear on whether the president can simply decree something like DOGE into existence, but if he can then Musk is acting in an official capacity, which seems to me even worse.
