There is an actual technique (thanks to my 3d modeling college instructor, you're the king),
You can simply use a Subdivision Surface modifier to make objects smoother without destructing/baking the mesh, and in order to sharpen any specific edges you can Edge Crease (Shift E) on selected edges.
