Drawing?!? Kids, man. Genuinely think this drawing looks more delicious than any red onion I’ve ever had.
My brilliant witch-child 15 yo niece has been drawing onions!

You know when you’re tired? When 12-year old students notice that you’re tired.

Chess, as such, isn’t hard. The main problem tends to be that the people I play are quite good at it and not interested in losing.

Day milliontyfive of back pain. It’s shifting, lads. I believe it is. I managed to almost entirely dress myself, the act of showering has been downgraded to DEFCON-4, and I drove for the first time since Saturday.
I also winced when I stepped on a 2mm bump in the road, so we are not quite there yet.

What day are we on? Day 8? Yeah. Sure. My back seems intent on keeping me on my toes. Today has been a smorgasbord of pains - random, dull, intense, shabby, non-existent. Like the world’s worst wedding DJ. Hopefully this is a physio-related step back, and tomorrow will have me tap-dancing again*.

Back pain, Day 7.
I had not fully appreciated how uneven Edinburgh is. This is a city entirely composed of bumps, lumps, drops and ridges.
Ow.
Also, I am going to the physio, down these stairs. Wish me luck, or a relatively painless death.

Day 6. I went and saw a very nice drugs who gave me all the nurse. I am now in significantly less pain, and the penguin is very pliable after that episode with the cheeseboard.

Recap: on Tuesday I pulled a muscle in my back. Either that, or I entered into a portal to a very bespoke hell. Today is Day 5.
If pain is indeed weakness leaving the body, my body is very happy to announce that it had quite a lot of weakness stored up, and is happy to keep supplying.

BP day 4.
Woke up feeling … better! Movement was easier, aches had shifted, positivity! Joy! Went to the bathroom, stood up …and someone stabbed me in the back with an invisible trident.
I am 100% done with this now.

BP day 3 update.
I have won a very satisfying game of chess and had at least two moments where I found myself, if not quite skipping gaily, then at least walking without worrying about the next jolt of pain.
It’s not much, but we’ll take it.

Back pain, day 3.
I need many things. Anti-inflammatory things that actually anti-inflame. IV chocolate. A solution so old-man shuffling and looking down on my phone doesn’t make me dizzy.
What I *don’t* need, at this precise moment in time?
A sneeze.
Ow.
Ow ow ow ow ow.

Day 2 update.
I sat down because shuffling around at a sub-glacial pace is surprisingly tiring and the sun is having an almost personal moment with my favourite chair. It was a Bad Idea. Scooched in, nearly fell asleep, had to do some sort of broken 3D model patch job to get myself vertical again.

Back pain, Day 2.
I got out of bed on my own not once, but TWICE. I will now and forevermore recognise this as a fantastic privilege. Spasms are more frequent, which makes the stairs way less fun, but significantly less intense. Sitting down for more than 10 minutes remains a Bad Idea.

Yesterday I pulled a something in my back while trying to resuscitate a photocopier. Today has been spent trying out what being 88 years old might be like. 0/10, would not recommend.
