oh, I see, I'm locked out of the ending that I was trying for. it's… going to be a bit of a chore to get both of them, but I already knew one of them would be a lot, so it's not that much of a difference.
and I *hope* the game's SKIP feature cuts down on the tedium, but let's find out.

I can say that I liked ANNHILIATION (2018) more than I liked "Annihilation" (2014), but I have some ambivalence about it, too.
It did a much better job depicting hyperreality (so much color!) and also communicating the mundane "hike in a state park" that inspired the novel than the novel did […]

I can say that I liked ANNHILIATION (2018) more than I liked "Annihilation" (2014), but I have some ambivalence about it, too.

I can definitely detect the Vibe and see in my mind's eye the kind of removed place that Area X represents, and how real hiking inspired it, but I think my overall impression immediately after finishing it is that this was an effective short story stretched out into novel length

I like plenty of its world and premise, but so much of the writing felt like fluffy purple prose to me. I can't recall the last book I encountered that leaned so heavily on simile.
