Cranky gardener. Oregon 8b.
Prone to bouts of sarcasm.
“That boy ain’t right in the head.”
It’s dark, dry, and cold. If we left them out in pots in the weather, they’d rot from the rain.

Thanks but the idea is not mine. 🥸
If you have a greenhouse with a metal frame that has a center groove in it, look for plastic clips that twist in to help lock the wrap in place. Just using tape will work, but no joy in spring to remove.

I’ll send a better snap when I can.

My goal has been to have room to park one car in the garage. However, the GM has superseded my plans. Until further notice.
And me? Work on a car? Not unless it’s before 1975 and hasn’t been assimilated by the Borg.

I’m a giver. Generous to a fault.

Duct tape comes in handy. 😉

Oh. And dahlias in pots… of which there are many.
Potted dahlias are allowed to dry out and are then stored in an unheated, dank dark garden shed until they start to push in spring.
Then repotted, and set on a heat mat until of size to survive the onset of slugs.

Both. However, this year, we’re digging them all up to divide and shuffle. We have a few planted out not performing well. And a couple doing too well.

But in previous years, we just cut back, mulch heavily over top, and if possible, cover with frost cloth. It’s the wet that does the most harm.

They do “age” out too. We also found a place that sells really thick walled terracotta directly from Mexico. And… only pots of a large size stay out. Smaller ones go somewhere warmer.

Honestly… we’ve lost more to user error than freezing.

Good question. We’ve been lucky and have only had one winter that it got cold enough (17°F) to crack ONE pot. The rest manage rather well.
They are unglazed, which helps with it in some manner. It breathes?
We have a few glazed pots that don’t get stored outside.

Yay snow! Winter! Snow men! Winter wonderland! Ice. Broken pipes. Frozen radiators. Shoveling the sidewalk. Driving. Chains. The smell of wet wool. Wearing 7 layers outside. 3 layers inside. Freezing and sweating. I can’t feel my toes.

Oh no, my dear. There’s still plenty of flowers and color. Do not retreat to despair just yet.

Wait till after the New Year. Like me!

I’m no expert in iris by a long shot… but yes. The form seems rather different from the Siberian iris I’m more familiar with.
Interesting…

Yeah. We’re moving a few things around between now and spring.
