Once I was backstage with a friend whose friend was playing drums for Elvis Costello and Billy Bob Thornton's band was the opener. Billy and I talked and and he gave me his guitar pick and the next morning he announced he was getting divorced from Angelina Jolie but I had nothing to do with that.

From Mike: Not only did Andy Andrews and I talk about the new book, but we revealed how the new book came about only because Andy and I were stranded at sea. Very dramatic.

Listen to Mike visit with his friend and fishing partner, Andy Andrews as a guest on The Professional Noticer.

There was great spirit at the New Auburn All-School Reunion and sesquicentennial celebration. It was also good to see my classmate Dixie (of Klemish Creamery) although as ever, we had to dance around the delicate subject of her beating me in the sixth grade spelling bee. (Thanks Brenda C for pics)

If you’ve seen the June 12, 2025 issue of Volume One, that beautiful cover is the work of Mike’s longtime family friend and Chippewa Valley artist Lori Chilefone. You also may recognize the artwork from the Population 485-based “Summer Here” poster.

Random oddities of the midlist touring author life: You look up from a taxi leaving La Guardia Airport in NYC, spot an odd-looking hotel and realize, “Hey, I slept there once! 2017-ish. Last night of the Montaigne in Barn Boots tour.” And a week ago it was some hotel in Beloit.
