Epic haul from @orbitdvd.bsky.social today. House with Laughing Windows in particular has long been a difficult to see grail for me. No doubt @secondsightfilms.bsky.social and @arrowvideo.bsky.social will deliver.

Final thoughts on THE EXPANSE. It's a goddamn shame this series never became a GAME OF THRONES level phenomenon. It's an amazingly well realized look into humanity's future, one where we have warp drives and advanced medical tech, but are still bogged down by the same old shit. Even 200+ years...

Finished season 3 of The Expanse, which puts me at the halfway point of the series. This is exactly the kind of epic science fiction saga I've been needing for...a decade. After a somewhat slow first season, it's full gas and it hasn't let up. You've got a killer mystery surrounding an evolving...

Really disappointed in this one, sadly. Some people are clearly digging Halestorm's heavier, sound here, but I'm just not vibing with it. Worse, the mixing and mastering is ABOMINABLE. Rock music often sounds like crap. Lzzy Hale has an unstoppable voice but it's completely overpowered by...

PERFECT DAYS is a lovely slice of life drama about living in the now and finding beauty in the small things. Hirayama cleans Tokyo's public toilets for a living, listens to music on cassette, eats sandwiches in the park, reads and tends to his plants at night. He's figured out the secret to life.

Recently restarted Cyberpunk 2077, and something that's been evident from day 1, is that, if nothing else, Night City is a staggering achievement from CDPR. This is one of the most alive game worlds ever created, a living, breathing city, thoughtfully designed and so full of detail. There are six...

This sucks. I'm not that familiar with his film work, but he left an indelible mark on me with his astonishing voice work as Atton Rand in KOTOR II. Such a complex and wonderful character.

Nearly six months out from launch, I finally finished Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This is a textbook mixed bag. From a technical and design standpoint, and as a game that you play, The Veilguard is rock solid. No complaints. But these kinds of story heavy RPGs live or die by their writing, and...

It's only February and we may well have GOTY already. KCD II is a monumental triumph for Warhorse Studio. I haven't been this sucked into a game and its world in some time. Medieval historical fiction isn't usually my go to genre of choice, but Warhorse have weaved such a compelling tale here...

Homophobes are mad because possibly the best game of 2025 has an optional gay romance subplot. Even though he's been written as the straightest man alive, Hans falling for his best friend is an incredibly wholesome moment of bisexual awakening. Kingdom Come Deliverance II has been a triumph so far.

A notorious case of extreme French cinema, a moving meditation on aging and mortality, an acclaimed Korean auteur's debut that inspired a bonkers remake a few years later, and the same director's 2010 feature that's possible the greatest revenge thriller ever put to film. Kudos to Umbrella in 🇦🇺.

Oof. Supremely stylish and entertaining but also unintentionally hilarious, a bit sleazy, and pretty wildly transphobic. So much weird dialogue and performances. Why does this have a Criterion release? ⭐⭐

Spectacularly shot, pretty moving man vs beast period drama about a grizzled hunter fated into a confrontation with a massive Korean tiger. Choi Min-sik is goated. Haunting vocal-heavy score is powerful. A tad too long and a bit melodramatic. Fake looking CG everywhere but I didn't mind. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just in from Umbrella Entertainment, Ti West's HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, and a pair of time loop twisters, Christopher Smith's nautical horror TRIANGLE, and Nacho Vigalondo's TIMECRIMES.

Absolutely cracking period spy thriller set in Japan-occupied Korea. Terrific performances all around and an engrossing, if unoriginal, story. 4.5 stars.

I wish MINARI did more for me. It's got all the ingredients. Great performances, cinematography, score, and as a film about the hope, promise, and struggle of the then viable American dream, I can see how this hit like a ton of bricks for some. Left me a little cold sadly. Still gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐.
