ALSO - sometimes, stories just need a second go. Sometimes, stories aren’t for us, but sometimes we aren’t in the right moment for a story to hit us. That was definitely my experience with ANGELICA. I wasn’t ready. Tonight I was.

I’m a robot, y’all. I can’t promise every reader will connect with the message of grief the way I have, but what started as a fun theater story with beautiful (as always) illustrations ended as a moving, powerful story of human connection, positive examples of communication, & fantastic subtly 4/5

Now, I’m sitting here on my favorite holiday passing out candy and reading the author’s note and literally SOBBING at the back 3rd of this book and the author’s note. 3/5

@trungles.com is one of my favorite storytellers & artists, but I couldn’t get into this story when it was first up for review. Nevertheless, I had it on preorder because I adore this human and every piece of art they produce. 2/5

For reals. I debated several ways of shortening. 😝 The kids call it the green manga or green Yuri, but didn’t know if it would translate to those seeing the picture & reading a list of titles!

All that being said, DS is hugely popular & has staying power because it’s BEAUTIFUL and gives ample time to build up demon & side character backstories. I genuinely felt bad for many demons before they die.

- some libraries in some states might want to stop after the Infinity Train arc (vol 8). After that, characters head to the Entertainment District, also known as the Red Light district. Nothing is seen on pg, but implications & “geisha” are around.

- DS is gory throughout. People and demons get murdilated right on page. It’s kinda states up front that there is gonna be… slaying…
