So, many thoughts:

1. This seems like an obviously bad idea
2. Can we have a discussion about whether or not the PCEF funding structure is actually working? Both in terms of "what it set out to do", but also, how is it possible for this fund to be such a constant raiding target?
A citizen ballot initiative backed by the Portland Police Association will seek to reroute 25% of revenues from the Portland Clean Energy Fund tax to fund the hiring of 400 additional police officers.

Does anyone in Portland know why the parks levy doesn't actually address the much-needed maintenance costs of running parks?

I've read the following, and the situation seems dire: www.portland.gov/auditor/audi...

Funny how thousands upon thousands of people can march through war torn Portland with absolutely no violence but some how anyone getting near a federal agent gets shot in the face.

If you think the military should be deployed into American cities because there’s the slightest tension at a protest, congratulations!

You are a fascist!

Lots of people want to hold fascist ideologies without realizing what they’ve become, but we have words to describe things and that’s what u are

Just in case this isn't clear to anyone:

- the president declared war on Portland, and wants the national guard to use full force against the "hellfire" of citizens here
- our city council used to have a group chat

And Willamette Week is more concerned about that second bullet point
what we really need in this moment is WWeek publishing more content about how the city councilors who are bravely putting themselves out there to publicly criticize a violent dictator who is sending troops to our city are communicating with one another on Microsoft Teams.

it feels extremely jarring to try to focus on anything else while the federal government declares war on the city I live in, using rhetoric showing they're clearly hungry to murder civilians

this moment feels like a calm before a (preventable, unnecessary, trump-instigated, amoral) shitstorm

Trump’s deployment of troops to Portland is a dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. Now is the time to find our own ways of standing up and fighting back to preserve our democracy. Fellow vets: we need you to muster. And those serving: you can refuse an unlawful order as you may receive it.

I run by south waterfront in PDX at least once a week. People have been peacefully, persistently protesting in front of the ICE building for many months now. Nothing "new" justified any federal action - they're clearly looking for a fight.

Hoping Portland can go where agents are not.

Granted, it's because I never had a subscription.

It SHOULD go without saying, but I guess sometimes it needs to be said:

If you respond to one of my Portland housing posts with the proposal to "just kill homeless people" I'm going to block you without a second thought

Have a buddy who works in construction (concrete). His job shifted his schedule, from super early to late in the evening.

His union is ensuring that he can stay employed, even if that schedule becomes untenable for him.

Seems like a neat case where unions truly facilitate employment!

@councilordunphy.bsky.social , has council considered a "local" version of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit?

Could be a way to intervene as a city in this problem:
- secures investment for development
- expectation of a positive ROI, but not unbounded
- the city collectively owns housing
councilor dunphy has a video on instagram talking about development math, arguing that market rate development can never lower people’s rents. a couple thoughts:

(thread incoming)

The city of Vienna operates 220,000 city-owned flats, with a "two-person cap of $103,000" for eligibility.

Portland actually has an existing program that *similar*, through the Inclusionary Housing program, but has some key differences...

One of my only uses for using "okay google" is to change directions or stop navigation with Google Maps while driving.

Today, while using this, the "new AI assistant" told me it couldn't do anything related to navigation.

This USED to work. Table stakes feature, totally broken now.
