He did that for all of 6 months before becoming disillusioned and left. It wasn't a "Nazi" tattoo. The Nazis used a number of skull and crossbones, as did cultures throughout history. That particular skull and crossbones is way older than the Nazis. It's not dissimilar to the Jolly Roger that many military men got, or the poison symbol. The US military has a policy that checks for extremist, racist and sexist tattoos, and the Nazi connection never came up during security screenings, including when he joined the army national guard after his marine service and later for the state department when he worked as security detail for the US ambassador to Afghanistan. If they didn't know it was a symbol the Nazis used, how would he? He got it removed as soon as he knew the connection. He explained the shitposting he did on reddit, as he was in a dark place and suffering from PTSD. You can believe him or not. I don't think he's a "savior". I think he's human. And a fighter for progressive values- some of which he may have come to as a result of his experience in war.
