You don't hear of spreading fires in colonial Mexican towns.
The French Qtr in New Orleans (orig wooden bldgs) burned in 1788. The FQ was then rebuilt by the Spanish who then controlled New Orleans. It IS flammable, but was built with thick masonry walls/roofs....and has stood for 237 yrs
