A teen's death in a Wisconsin sawmill highlights the growing number of children and teens around the U.S. working in hazardous jobs meant for adults
Teen's death in Wisconsin sawmill highlights "21st century problem" across the U.S.
The number of children employed illegally in the U.S. is soaring, Labor Department figures show. Sometimes that work kills them.

With sufficient resources, time, and (ill) will, one could "discover" a few passages of "duplicative language" in the published work of *any* active scholar, myself included.

The assault on Claudine Gay's academic integrity is simply an undisguised effort to take down a successful Black woman.

In the context of the Substack statement, let me repeat what I keep repeating about Nazis:

The Nazis are always the bad guys.

You do not, under any circumstances, need them for a robust political discourse.

Mask up for the next 10 days when you're indoors in public so you can just share time with friends & family, not flu or Covid, later this month!

And, for everyone's sake, mask up at the airport, on the plane, at the winter concerts, and on public transit through the New Year!

The people of North Carolina can't really be said to govern themselves anymore. A permanent single party Republican tyranny regardless of what the people of the state choose
Gerrymandering is why the GOP can eviscerate North Carolina's university system since the legislature appoints the Board of Governors

After Roy Cooper (D) beat Gov. Pat McCrory (R) in 2016, the GOP passed a law before he even took office that stripped his power to appoint campus boards of trustees
This is the CV of the new Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Things are bleak in higher ed, friends.

Again, if your understanding of “campus politics” focuses on powerless left wing students and not influential right wing donors, you don’t have an understanding of “campus politics”
The story at UPenn is only getting worse. Check out the list of questions that the donor spurring the resignations sent to the Board.

This is what did it for me. I was inactive on Xitter for the lat few weeks, but the return of Alex Jones was, and is, intolerable. I felt such relief when I closed down my account.

Same in TX. I just did a “training” for evaluation of grad applications, in the wake of the affirmative action ban. 35 minutes of what felt like a wink-nod. Really, students are the ones who need training for writing statements that let us read them in context.

Paste it to your refrigerator: this is the world the GOP wants, no matter what bullshit they mumble about moderation and exceptions.
NEW: The Texas Supreme Court VACATES the temporary restraining order that would have allowed Kate Cox to get an abortion in Texas, stating that her situation, as articulated, falls outside the medical-necessity exception www.txcourts.gov/media/145764...
