have a look at a sample of what Super Mario World looks like scaled to 4K using MMPX16, a pixel art scaler that attempts to retain a low-resolution pixelated look without simply enlarging pixels

this method creates 256 sample subpixels from every pixel to give an almost “HD-2D” look to sprites
the attract mode from Super Mario World with distinctly blocky looks and clear pixelation, but smoother diagonals and more rounded edges the result is distinctly closer to the look of pixel art than methods like xBRZ and HQx

just a reminder that Blizzard’s WarCraft (as in World of) and StarCraft properties began life as shameless clones of Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000, respectively, and Games Workshop has been aggressively targetting indie creatives for the purposes of rent seeking ever since
Warcraft art Allen Adham hoped to obtain a license to the Warhammer universe to try to increase sales by brand recognition. Warhammer was a huge inspiration for the art-style of Warcraft, but a combination of factors, including a lack of traction on business terms and a fervent desire on the part of virtually everyone else on the development team (myself included) to control our own universe nixed any potential for a deal. We had already had terrible experiences working with DC Comics on “Death and Return of Superman” and “Justice League Task Force”, and wanted no similar issues for our new game.
