This is right. I hate the the "right" has claimed morality as a "Christian" issue. Morality is societal. A pact. Many religions have contributed to morality but none are essential to what we as a society decide. I think that is the fight... is greed moral? Is dehumanization of any group moral?

“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

School choice will kill off rural schools, many of which Republicans have already reduced to 4 day weeks.

I say this as someone whom would benefit mightily from school choice bc of my autistic son.

It's not just fdr. One of the things the epa did not long after it was formed was document the nation's pollution via photography. That can seem frivolous, but generations of Americans have no idea why the EPA was necessary. This broke a million views when we published it in 2017

An underappreciated danger in school voucher schemes is families may take on new debt—to private schools or other vendors—beyond what vouchers cover.

HS degree grantors and for-profit microschools can hike tuition and all but force families to take out top-off loans to complete.

One nice thing about being a free person, or the operator of a free press, is you don’t have to consult—much less “obey”—a goddam book of presidential proclamations to learn what words, geographic or otherwise, are permissible to use. Any government encroachment on that freedom ought to be fought.
