The earnestness of a child in the body of a 50-something educator. I joined Twitter for Conan, but Bluesky is for me. As a little treat.

If you make 130% of the federal poverty level, you qualify for SNAP.

A family of four, making $40,560, qualifies for SNAP benefits meaning thousands of Missouri teachers qualify.

I’m tired of the bullshit. Most of the people who receive snap benefits work.

If you're young, you almost certainly have a superpower: vast amounts of energy.

You won't realise it's a superpower until the kryptonite of ageing robs you of it. And then it'll be too late.

So use it while you can.

Maybe it's time to attach strings to the subsidization of red states, like critical reasoning taught in all grades, more civics classes, and higher pay for better-credentialed teachers -- not out of largesse but to protect the rest of us.

This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

While making our bills, my husband casually said “You know what’s cool about having American flag stamps? You can stick them on upside down to signify our national distress.” And I’m reminded all over again why I love him…❤️

The clouds this morning over Tillamook Bay on the Oregon Coast were pretty dang cool.

The world is what it is, but our cat had a birthday today and the theme was bananas and it was joyful as hell.

I was just reminded that in early 1992 my roommate and I bought a VHS of Carly Simon Live From Martha’s Vineyard and it was gorgeous and ethereal but the tape was damaged so we took it back but they didn’t have another copy so we got “Defending Your Life” instead.

My husband and I were watching a documentary about the horrific tornado that swept through Joplin, MO in 2011. Unexpectedly, Barack Obama was shown giving a speech about hope, survival, and humanity.
My husband and I both started crying. Compassionate leadership. We have lost so much.

Don’t forget to go outside and touch trees and talk to the moon or whatever. Breathe deep. Draw strength from nature.

Quick reminder that he wanted the REAL Alcatraz and was told he couldn’t have it and probably threw a fit (and some ketchup) until they placated him with this…monstrous thing.
And they let him have merch because of course that is normal.
This is reality. Fun.

Suddenly their dog whistles are God whistles so I’m expecting some ridiculous and exhausting “Christian” hullabaloo soon. Their playbook is literally a coloring book, jfc.

I know hindsight is 20/20, and my governmental procedures knowledge is steeped in the idealism of Schoolhouse Rock, but *maybe* we could have, at some point, insisted on single-issue bills. Stacking hundreds of unconnected issues into a single vote is RIDICULOUS. Our government is not functional.

I’ve been test driving all the available trauma responses and I have to say… freeze has always worked incredibly well for me. Although I often pepper in flight for variety. The good ol’ 1-2 punch of “run and hide?” Chef’s kiss. 🤌🏻

Back from grocery shopping (OUCH) and I have a question:
We know (painfully so) about inflation, and we are aware of shrinkflation, but is there a term for the drastic drop in the *quality* of many products? We are paying MORE for LESS of products that taste/work inferior to prior iterations.
